We dated for a little while and my mom and dad didn’t approve of us dating, because he was black and I’m white. They gave me a hard time about it, my dad didn’t even talk to us for a while.
My mom would kind of talk to Rody but she still didn’t want us together. I was heart broken! I was carrying so much anger towards them. Anger that only God could take away.
One evening Rody asked me to marry him…I said yes! I called my mom and told her and she was mad! She said something that broke my heart, she said “don’t expect me to pay for a wedding that won’t last!” I hung up on her. I was bawling my eyes out! Rody hugged me and said “we need to break up!” Omg I was furious! He said “I’m not going to get in the middle of you and your family!” I was so mad, I called my mom and told her he was breaking up with me because of them. I never cried so hard in my whole life!
We decided to get married right away at the courthouse about a month from then.
About 2 weeks later we went to church, for some reason my mom wasn’t there. But during worship my dad went up and knelt at the front of the church, I started crying and I went up front too and hugged him and told him I loved him. It was hard but I knew I had to do it to let some things go.
After church my dad asked if we wanted to meet him at Tony’s we said yes! Totally shocked!
We were at Tony’s and my dad says “so mom tells me your getting married at the courthouse!” I said “yep” and then he said “you want me to marry you guys?” I was in shock! I was like hu???
He said “no daughter of mines getting married at the courthouse!” I started crying! Then he said “I’ll talk to pastor, and we can have it at the church and I can walk you down the isle and then I can marry you guys!”
IT WAS A MIRACLE!!! God somehow changed my dad! We said of course we wanted to do this!
So we decided we were still going to get married on the date we originally planned which was now 2 weeks away. 2 WEEKS TO PLAN A WEDDING…ARE WE CRAZY!?!?
About a week later we set it up for my mom and dad and Rodys mom and dad to meet, so they went out to dinner, and something clicked…They were life long friends from then on. I know it was God, because they were both parents who were praying for their kids…and both Christian. You cant beat that with a stick. My mom and dad loved Rody from then on. No more color!
